Photos: Education Chancellor from Japan Visits Hawai‘i Conference

On February 18, the Chancellor of Doshisha Educational Corporation in Japan, Eiji Hatta, visited the Hawai‘i Conference Office to discuss plans to demolish two buildings with connections to the Conference. The Friend Peace House international student dormitory, entrusted to Doshisha in 1936 by UCC members and philanthropists Theodore and Mary Atherton Richards, as well as the Hawai'i House dormitory funded by the Hawai'i Conference and the Atherton Foundation in 1968, have structurally deteriorated in recent years. In their place, Doshisha Kindergarten will be erected to continue Doshisha's mission of offering an “education of conscience” rooted in Christian principles.

Below are photos from Mr. Hatta’s meeting with Interim Conference Minister Gabrielle Chavez and UCC member Jim Richards.
