Reflection: "I was moved by the resolutions..."

I am honored to have been a part of the 32nd General Synod of the United Church of Christ, a HCUCC Conference delegate and representing the Kaua‘i Association United Church of Christ (KAUCC).

Each speaker gave dynamic speeches of themselves that I was very moved by their beginnings and where they’re going. I especially enjoyed Karen Georgia-Thompson’s journey as a young child to where she is today. Her candidacy for the position as Associate General Minister of the UCC’s Wider Church Ministries from her beginnings into what she is today not only from her mother but by our God touched my heart, thanking her for her beginnings.

Congratulations, Rev. Karen George-Thompson, for being duly elected to serve as the next Associate General Minister of the UCC’s Wider Church Ministries!

Although I was not part of the committee that wrestled with LGBT issues, I understand it was a resolution that perhaps needed more time, but like every resolution, our time was presenting our exclusive voice.

I was moved by the Resolutions that were presented for Approval or Not Approved. Good discussions came of it for the betterment of the Synod and I’m proud again, to have been a representative of the HCUCC as well as the KAUCC.

Linda serves on the Kaua‘i Association Committee on Ministry. She is inter ested in learning about what more the General Synod can offer Hawaii’s UCC ministers on each of our islands and how our island churches, and especially our Committees on Ministry, can assist our pastors who are moving toward ordination in the UCC.
