HCUCC Members Walk for Water
On Sunday, April 23, members from several of our O‘ahu churches—including Central Union Church, Church of the Crossroads, United Church of Christ Judd Street—joined the Walk for Water to Shut Down Red Hill. Around 500 people gathered for the walk which started at Magic Island and circled about three miles around Ala Moana Regional Park. Walkers held signs and chanted, "Shut Down Red Hill!" "Ola i ka wai!"
The walk, organized by kūpuna volunteers, was to benefit the Sierra Club of Hawai‘i's fund to shut down Red Hill. A special "community thank-you" was offered to Wayne Tanaka, Executive Director of the Sierra Club of Hawai‘i, and to the Board of Water Supply's Manager/Chief Engineer Ernie Lau and Deputy Manager Erwin Kawata.
