A message for Pastor Appreciation Month
To the authorized ministers of the Hawai‘i Conference United Church of Christ – pastor, kahu, chaplain, spiritual advisor, whatever title you may go by – you attend to scriptures and the voices of the ones you minister with and among, praying God’s blessings on your “community of faith.” Bless you, and may the ministries you are involved in continue to touch the hearts of those around you.
You may see a person only three times if you are a chaplain, or longer if you are a hospice chaplain. You may serve in a setting that does not recognize the spiritual depth of your training. You may be cycling through another liturgical year wondering if you can integrate an in-person service with an online service. Or you may be so far in the background that you wonder if anyone notices your gifts at all.
Please know that you are celebrated by the Hawai‘i Conference. Without you, there would be no ministry among the people. Without you, there would be no proclamation of the Word. Without you, people who wrote the church off would be facing crises and the end of life without knowing the welcoming grace and love of God. Without you, that person wondering if life is worth living would not have a positive answer.
Our authorized ministers serve in various roles and settings, as local church pastors, chaplains, spiritual directors, and even serve in incognito jobs that may not be labeled “church related.” You are a minister, nonetheless. This is the work of God in and among the people of God because you are present, exercising your gifts for ministry.
On behalf of a grateful Conference – Thank you!
