Waiola Church Holds First Service Since Wildfire

Hawai‘i Conference

Waiola Church, located in Lahaina, Maui, lost all their buildings in the Lahaina Wildfire in August 2023. On March 2, 2025, they regathered on their campus for the first time since.

In a Facebook post the week before, they shared:

Dear Waiola ‘Ohana,

With hearts full of faith and gratitude, we are blessed to announce that Waiola Church will hold its first worship service since the wildfire on:

Sunday, March 2, 2025

10:00 AM

Waiola Church Grounds

This will be a simple, informal service where we will come together to worship, give thanks, and share in communion. As we continue our journey of healing and rebuilding, we invite you to join us under the tent for this special gathering.

Please bring your own comfortable chair as seating is limited. Going forward, we plan to hold monthly services every Communion Sunday, offering a time for reflection, fellowship, and prayer as we restore our sacred space.

Let us come together in faith, hope, and unity as we take this important step forward as a church ‘ohana.

Mahalo nui loa, and we look forward to worshiping with you!

Blessings,

Waiola Church Leadership

Waiola Church shared on Facebook:

"For where 2 or 3 are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.” —Matthew 18:19-20 "(NKJV).
An historic day for Waiola Church—open air! With God's grace Waiola moves forward. On March 2nd, 2025 at 10 AM, Kahu Anela Rosa led the first church service and communion since the Lahaina Wildfire on the grounds of Waiola Church under a tent. Plans in the works for a Communion Sunday service every month. More to follow.

"Waiola Church that burnt in the Lahaina fire had it's first communion service under the open space on a beautiful Sunday morning. Kahu Anela was very personal with her presentation that came from the heart. They will be worshipping every communion Sunday." –Danny Tengan, HCUCC Disaster Coordinator, via Facebook
