Theological Education for Leadership (TEL)

TEL is an online learning program of special courses and seminars for people who want to study theology and ministry in community. TEL is multicultural in its design and focus. The program may be engaged at the level that works for you—for personal spiritual formation, lay leadership training, professional growth, or continuing education.

The CTEL Program, in which a student will receive a certificate upon completion, consists of nine classes and two seminars that are scheduled over one academic year (11 months, excluding July). A student is given two years to complete all coursework, understanding that the student may not be able to complete the courses in consecutive order in one year. The cycle of classes is repeated in the second year.

Students who may not want to enroll in the certificate program are able to take individual courses based on interest.

The Theological Education for Leadership Hawaiʻi Cohort (TEL Hawaiʻi) builds on the unique and long-standing relationship between Pacific School of Religion and the Hawaiʻi Conference of the United Church of Christ. This history of collaboration has trained numerous pastors, provided continuing education opportunities, supported leadership formation, and led to beneficial partnerships across the Pacific Rim.

After many years of dreaming and planning, PSR launched TEL Hawaiʻi in September 2021. In collaboration with PSR alums, friends, and the Hawaiʻi Conference and thanks to the generous support of several of partners and friends, this program is allowing us to prepare leaders for the congregations and communities in Hawai‘i:

View a presentation on the TEL program by Program Director Rev. Tana Roseboro-Marsh and Professor Dr. Joyce Del Rosario of Pacific School of Religion, and also Hawai‘i graduates of the Certificate in Theological Education for Leadership (CTEL) program: Caroline Belsom, Linda Ka‘auwai-Iwamoto, and Tiffany Marotte.
